COVID-19 UPDATE

February 24, 2022 – The dojo is OPEN for in-person practice! Everyone attending practice must have completed COVID vaccination at least two weeks prior and show proof of vaccination. Do NOT attend if you have COVID symptoms, feel sick, or may have been exposed. New members should contact for up-to-date information or to become a member. (The dojo was closed mid-March of 2020 due to the Covid Pandemic. It re-opened Thursday, April 22, 2021. The dojo closed again January 13, 2022 due to rapid spread of the Omicron variant. It re-opened February 24, 2022).

Please feel free to visit during any scheduled practice. No appointment is necessary. Beginners are always welcome!

  • Tuesday 6 – 7:30 pm led by Mike Lyon open to all levels
  • Thursday 6 – 7:30 pm led by Mike Lyon open to all levels
  • Saturday noon – 1:30 pm led by Carl Johnson open to all levels
  • Sunday 6 – 7:30 pm 50 Bassai led by Takamasa Morita

Cost:

Please practice with us FREE once or twice so you can decide whether you’d like to join. After that you must become a member of SKA and pay local dues in order to practice.

  • National SKA Dues: $75/first year, $100/year thereafter
  • Local Dues: $50/month

Shotokan Karate of America, and the Kansas City Shotokan Karate Club dojo are non-profit organizations, but we must charge a modest amount to help meet expenses.

Members are entitled to various privileges including training at any SKA or affiliated dojo, ranking, participating in special practices, tournaments and other events organized by SKA. A subscription to an on-line newsletter is included in the membership.
