2023 Yodan & Godan practices

November 5, 2023

Mike Lyon, Carl Johnson and David Altman traveled together to attend the annual Yodan (godans invited) & Godan practices held November 4 & 5 at Shotokan Ohshima Dojo near Santa Barbara, California. They flew from Kansas City to Los Angeles (and shared Carl’s delicious cashews), rented a car and drove up to the Motel 6 in Carpenteria where Carl and David shared a bed and Mike had the other one all to himself. David and Mike had both come down with a nasty upper respiratory infection during special training (David and Mike both wound up on Doxycycline the following week and got well in a couple of days) but Carl managed to escape in good health!

John Teramoto led the Saturday yodan practice that focused on standing leg, Jutte kata, and Iai. Ron Thom led the Sunday godan practice and emphasized breathing, mature practice, Jutte, and Iai.
