ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- You must be a current member in good standing of SKA
- You must be at least 16 years of age
- You must have your instructor’s consent
- You should be able to perform Tekki Shodan
REGULATIONS
No smoking. No alcoholic beverages. No drugs. No sexual activity. No one will be permitted to leave without the leader’s consent. You must attend all training sessions for their rank level. You are required to have personal Medical and Hospital insurance coverage. Insurance arrangements should be made in advance, insurance will not be available at the site.
ACCOMMODATION
All participants are required to sleep at the dojo. Floor space will be provided. Limited shower and toilet facilities are available. Be courteous to others and keep bathroom time to a minimum.
WHAT TO BRING
Karate-gis, personal toilet articles, towels, sleeping bag, pillow, casual but neat clothing, a warm coat, money for food.
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Senior members wishing to practice jiyu-kumite are required to use hand and mouth protection. Hand and mouth protection as well as groin protection for men and breast protection for women are recommended for all participants during sanbon kumite. Be prepared, protective equipment will NOT be available at the site.
TRAVEL
Ride the bus (RideKC) for FREE. The MCI airport bus stop is located in Terminal C and will drop you in downtown KC near 12th and Central. The bus runs hourly (you might wait up to an hour) and the ride itself takes less than an hour. The drop-off is 0.9 miles from the dojo, a 17 minute walk or a $5 to $10 Uber ride. You can find the bus schedule at https://ridekc.org/ – on that site your start address is “MCI” and your destination address is “2026 Broadway.”
Uber, Lyft, Taxi, Shuttle services are faster. Uber between MCI airport and the dojo takes about 30 minutes and costs about $35 (more during peak hours – less if you share).
