I’m very sad that J. Gregory Scott (March 26, 1951 – October 2, 2024), godan, fire fighter and EMT with the Los Angeles City Fire Department (retired), past president of SKA, and gifted fighter and leader of Garden Grove Dojo passed away early this morning after several years battling alzheimer’s.
Thirty years ago, at breakfast with Mr. Ohshima here in Kansas City, I mentioned how much I admired Greg’s leadership, high energy, positive mental attitude, outspokenness, charisma, and I told Sensei that someday I’d like to be like that. Greg was such a bright light, super-positive role model, and so accomplished. I admired him very much.
Read Greg’s ideas about how to lead a dojo in his essay “Comments From a Dojo.“
For many years, Greg owned and led Garden Grove Dojo, one of only a few dedicated dojos in SKA. It is here that Greg trained many of SKA’s strongest leaders and fighters.
“The Way – who will pass it on straight and well?”
