We made an intense practice prior to the start of the kyu test. David Altman led a long warmup and stretch followed by 20 (or 30) of each basic block, punch and kick, then 35 kata – five repetitions of each of the Heian kata plus Tekki Shodan and Tekki Nidan.
Kyu test this spring was led by nidans Mike Kostroske, Quang Nguyen, Greg Tunink, and shodan Paul Cepe supervised by David Altman, Mike Lyon, and Carl Johnson.

Mike Kostroske signed the kyu certificates and all the seniors had advice and corrections for those who tested. Afterwards, a bunch of us enjoyed a late lunch at LuLu’s Thai Restaurant a block or so from the dojo.
Congratulations to everyone – it was an excellent test with very strong spirit start to finish!
