The Kansas City Shotokan Karate Club hosted the 2023 Shotokan Karate of America Midwest Winter Special Training from Friday through Sunday October 27-29, 2023. It was great! Twenty-seven SKA members participated. They came from Texas, Illinois, California, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Alabama, Oregon, and Nebraska. We slept and took our meals in and above the dojo (thank you Chefs Matt & Sophie Chatfield!). Everyone finished. No one was injured. Everyone got home safely. A perfect special training!
Jeff Salkas, sandan from Chicago, was chosen to lead this training and he did an excellent job of making sure everyone pushed themselves well beyond their perceived limits, but not beyond their actual physical limits. He was serious and mindful and helped make a good atmosphere for our training.
